Your percentile, strongest reasoning domain, and a shareable badge
Country-level IQ estimates are among the most cited — and most disputed — figures in psychometrics. Here is how the commonly circulated rankings look, along with why they deserve more skepticism than they usually get.
Published estimates place the U.S. near the middle of the table. Treat the exact number loosely — your own score says far more than any national average.
How to read this: these figures come from compiled national datasets that researchers have criticized for small, unrepresentative samples, inconsistent test versions, and uneven schooling across countries. They say little about any individual, and nothing about innate ability. IQ scales are calibrated so the reference population averages 100.
IQ is a relative measure, not an absolute one. The scale is built so that most people cluster near 100 — which is what makes a single number meaningful.
Average IQ: 100 | Standard Deviation: 15
GuideIQ focuses on fluid reasoning — spotting patterns, drawing inferences, and solving problems you haven't seen before. That is the part of cognitive ability least dependent on what you happened to study in school.
Take it on a phone or laptop, whenever you have a quiet three minutes. You'll get an estimated score immediately, and the full report places that score on the distribution above and shows which reasoning domain you handled best.
The shape isn't a discovery — it's a design choice. Raw test performance is converted onto a normal curve deliberately set to a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. That calibration is what produces the familiar figures: roughly 68% of the reference population falls between 85 and 115, about 95% between 70 and 130, and roughly 2% above 130. So an IQ score never measures a fixed quantity of intelligence. It answers a narrower question — how your reasoning performance ranked against the group the test was normed on.
